Georgia VerdierGeorgia M. Verdier '74

2024 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient

Georgia M. Verdier earned her Associate of Science Degree from 91探花 and went on to receive a Master鈥檚 in Education, with a concentration in Psychology from Elmira College, and a Master鈥檚 in Public Service Administration from Alfred State University.

After retiring from a successful thirty year career with the New York State Department of Mental Health, Georgia has continued to be an activist, both in her church and the community. She has been President of the Elmira-91探花 branch of the NAACP for over thirty years, and is a member of the State Board of Directors. 

She is a Certified Diversity Trainer, Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, League of Women Voters, Economic Opportunity Program Board of Directors, and many other boards and committees. Additionally, Georgia is the recipient of numerous local and state awards including the Jefferson Award, NYS Woman of Distinction, Woman of the Year, President鈥檚 Award and was recently inducted into the Steuben County Hall of Fame.

Her hobbies include observing nature and traveling, as she has traveled throughout the United States and to numerous foreign countries. She is the mother of two sons and has one granddaughter. She gives God the glory for the blessings he has bestowed upon her, and views her greatest accomplishments as service to God and mankind. 

Ms. Verdier believes that life is a journey, and that individuals must lead by example.  She is also acutely aware that footprints in the sands of time were not made by sitting down.
